Real Madrid turn to Zidane to ‘unblock’ struggling striker as Galactico doubts grow

Real Madrid have approached former coach Zinedine Zidane to see if he can help them ‘unlock’ struggling summer signing Kylian Mbappe, according to reports in Spain.

Mbappe has scored nine goals in 18 appearances for Real Madrid since his successful Bosman move from Paris Saint-Germain, but he has been thrust into the spotlight following his penalty miss – and dismal performance – against Liverpool in the Champions League.

real Madrid Coach Carlo Ancelotti is racking his brains over how best to fit into the team. Design and Vinicius Junior, given that they both prefer to play on the left flank – and the pressure on the Frenchman is increasing.

Now, according to Diario SportReal Madrid are turning to Zidane to boost Mbappe’s confidence after realizing it has become a “problem” Ancelotti is trying to solve.

The reigning European champions hope Zidane can help unlock Mbappe thanks to their close relationship. It was Zidane who pointed out Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid when he was just starting out as a youngster, and then became the presenter at his presentation at the Bernabeu.

It is important to note that the report does not mean that Real Madrid want Zidane to replace Ancelotti as head coach, but rather that they want to rely on his advice to ensure Mbappe lives up to expectations.

Ultimately, despite his obvious star qualities, Sport claims there is a growing feeling in Madrid that Mbappe “doesn’t fit in” with Real Madrid’s “Galactico ecosystem”.

Why Real Madrid turned to Zidane

Zidane is one of Real Madrid’s most successful coaches, having won the Champions League three times in a row.

However, it is not only for these reasons that the club has identified him as the ideal person to help them integrate Mbappe.

Zidane himself struggled in his first season at Real Madrid after moving from Juventus before rediscovering his usual high level of quality.

A few years later, Frenchman Karim Benzema struggled early in his spell at Real Madrid, so the retired Zidane came to his aid and the striker eventually left the club as a Ballon d’Or winner.

With these pieces of history now behind him, Zidane is tasked with calming Mbappe’s situation and preventing him from becoming a high-profile transfer flop.

But at the moment there are doubts swirling around the Bernabeu as to whether he has “enough personality and character” among other stars such as Vinicius and Jude Bellingham.
