Sanctuary City Denver Spends Whopping 6 Million on Migrants: Study

How Democratic Denver Mayor Mike Johnston says he would be willing to go to jail for his opposition to Trump’s mass deportation plan. A new study claims the Blue City mayor has wasted a whopping $356 million of taxpayers’ hard-earned money on migrants.

The staggering amount of $7,900 for every foreign citizen in the city was revealed in an updated analysis last week by the Common Sense Institute (CSI), a nonpartisan research organization dedicated to protecting and promoting the U.S. economy.

The group says it used city data to come up with a staggering amount that equates to 8% of the city’s $4.4 billion 2025 budget. The figures combine the city budget, as well as regional education and health organizations.

DENVER MAYOR MIKE JOHNSTON SAYS TRUMP’S MASS DEPORTATION OF MIGRANTS IS CREATING A ‘TIANANMEN SQUARE MOMENT’

Denver has seen an unprecedented influx of migrants arriving in the city under Biden-Harris Administration and Johnston has already cut city services to house and feed these migrants. The cuts included reducing services at recreation centers and stopping planting spring flower beds while the city tapped into a reserve fund to pay rising costs.

CSI says most of the $356 million spent on migrants was spent on education, with the city also spending money on health care, hotels, transportation and child care. Denver is a sanctuary city, meaning the immigration Law, The city also does not cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

The group reports that nearly 45,000 migrants have arrived in the Denver metro area since December 2022, with 16,197 migrant students enrolled in Denver metro schools.

“Total cost to Denver “Metro school spending related to new migrant students is $228 million annually, equivalent to 1-2% of the state’s total K-12 education budget for the 2024-25 school year,” the group wrote.

“The previous CSI report estimated the cost of tuition and support per student in the Denver metro area at $14,100 per year. Assuming this cost for all recent migrant students would be $228 million.

The CSI study estimates that emergency departments in the Denver metro area provided approximately $49 million in free care to migrants.

“Based on 16,760 (migrant) visits to metro Denver emergency departments from December 2022 to present, providers would have provided $49,124,029 in uncompensated care to migrants.

At the height of the migrant influx in January 2024, officials estimated Denver was on track to spend $180 million through 2024, the study reported. Actual spending tracked by the city now shows it will spend about $79 million.

“Of the total amount, 34.5% was spent on facilities including hotels, 29.4% on staff, 14% on services and 11% on food,” the report said.

Johnston said during a recent interview that he is willing to protest anything he believes is “illegal, immoral or un-American” in the city, including the use of military force. was ready to go to jail for obstructing the policies pursued by the administration.
