Harris and Martin elected on first count as Mary Lou also retains Dail seat amid Hutch verdict

HISTORY TO DATE

WE are starting to get a glimpse of the 2024 general election – with Sinn Féin, Fine Gael and Fianna Fail leading the way.

Sinn Féin looks like it is leading at the moment, but everything remains in doubt and only the results have been announced for now.

Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael look set to win around 80 seats in the next Parliament, in which case both parties are likely to seek a coalition government in the next Parliament.

The locations have not yet been announced and it will be several hours before the correct results start coming in.

However, technically one seat is filled and the Ceann Comhaire is automatically re-elected.

Fianna Fail’s Seán Ó Feargaill will automatically take his next seat in the 34th Dail.

The Green Party appears to be in trouble, with Children’s Minister Roderick O’Gorman this morning revealing it was a “disappointing” day for the party as he battled for the fifth seat in his constituency.

Gerry Hutch is a strong contender for the Dublin Central seat, with The Monk estimated to be fourth with nine per cent, according to early results.

And with the veteran criminal in contention for the fourth spot, the possibility of Gerry Hatch being the TD in the next Dale isn’t entirely unlikely.
