Rescuer climbs down pipe and crawls 150 feet to rescue kitten

This week, an animal control officer in Florida was able to coax out a kitten that was stuck in a tight spot.

The black-and-white male kitten was heard “meowing for help” inside a drainage pipe near the Pensacola detention center, and the local sheriff called Escambia County Animal Control to help deal with the situation, according to the report. Wednesday post on social networks from the Animal Welfare Department.

Senior Animal Welfare Officer Sgt. Merideth Roberson tried setting a humane trap and playing mother cat sounds to “lure the kitten closer” but was unsuccessful. Roberson saw the “beady eyes” of a young cat at the end of the tunnel, she said. the district said in a press release.but the skeptical kitten remained in place.

That’s when she realized she’d have to dive into the pipe herself, first climbing down a ladder and eventually crawling what she estimates to be 150 feet through a drainage pipe, essentially cornering the kitten at the end of the tunnel.

“I managed to grab him and then crawl back to the stairs,” she said.

Roberson recalled, “I was a little scared crawling up there.” She noted that she was “very grateful” that she was able to rescue the kitten and “give him a second chance at life.”

The county animal control department said the kitten, now named Pipes, has “received a clean bill of health” and will “soon be available for adoption.”

Pipes’ dramatic rescue comes just after another cat made headlines for getting stuck in a drainpipe. This cat, a one-year-old girl named John, did not show up for breakfast at her home in the English town of Clevedon one day earlier this month. reported the BBC. Her owner eventually found the cat with its head sticking out of a pipe in the garage ceiling. John was rescued by local firefighters and is now okay.
