Houston firefighters rescue dog stuck on bridge pier in cold water

HOUSTON (AP) — A dog has been reunited with its owner after firefighters rescued it from the frigid waters of the Houston Bay.

The small dog was spotted Friday on a bridge pier in Sims Bayou in southwest Houston by a Houston Botanical Garden employee. Houston firefighters were called and a member of the department’s rescue team headed to the pier.

Video of the rescue shows that as the firefighter approached, the dog barked at him and bit his arms before jumping into the water. A firefighter eventually caught the dog and brought it safely to shore.

TV channel KHOU-11 reports that on Saturday the dog named Berbie was reunited with its owner.
